We’ve been meaning to write this blog for a while now but are only just getting around to it. So, finally, here are our 5 top tips on how to stop procrastinating.

Procrastination quietly steals our precious time and we happily let it, pretending we don’t see what is happening. But, deep down, we know exactly what is going on, and any court would find us equally guilty of this terrible crime against time.

Don’t worry. We’ve got your get out of jail free card. Here are 5 tips on how to stop procrastinating, right now!

1.     Start small

Getting the ball rolling is the hardest part. Line up a nice easy task to get you into the swing of things. You’ll be amazed how easy it is to move on to the next, and the feel-good factor of getting that one task done can propel you through the rest of your to-do-list.

2.     Break things down

Just like starting small, keep going in the same way by breaking big tasks down into a more manageable size. Like gravity pulling on a boulder, the bigger a task is, the more likely it is to fall further and further down our list. Don’t be daunted. Just keep chipping away until it’s nothing more than a pebble.

3.     Talk yourself into it

Be mindful of the language you use when thinking and describing your tasks. Play down the effort needed to complete things. By adopting the mentality of playing down the effort required in our minds we can often reduce the effort required in reality. Start phrasing tasks along the lines of “I just need to”, “Only that to do”, “Now a quick bit of” etc. It lifts a weight off that you didn’t know was there.

4.     Always know why

Start, and continue, with the end in mind. The stronger the reason you have for doing something the easier it is to start and to see it through to the finish. Even if you just take a moment to realise that by completing a task you are going to have more time for the things you truly enjoy. That’s exactly what Twasme is for at the end of the day.
